Bulbul’s nest Kunafa is an easy recipe to make Kunafa for beginners who have no or bad experience with making Kunafa dessert. Unfortunately it takes long time in preparation as you have to roll small amount of Kunafa per time, but you can make small amount of Kunafa or let your kids help you with rolling nests.
At a previous blog “Kunafa with nuts”, I gave you a glimpse about Kunafa history and types. Now, let’s make bulbul’s nest Kunafa;
Ingredients:
For Kunafa:
125 gm shredded phyllo dough or Kunafa hair.
½ cup melted ghee or butter.
Nuts or pastry cream.
For syrup:
1 cup sugar.
1 cup water.
1 small lemon juice or vanilla.
Preparation:
For syrup:
In a deep pan, add water, sugar, lemon juice and stir with a spoon.
Put the pan over medium high heat and stir for 5 min, then test the syrup by placing a drop on the table. The drop should hold itself and don’t spread.
For Kunafa:
Take 20*3 cm piece of Kunafa (you can change size to make it bigger or smaller), all kunafa hairs should be equal in length.
Spread melted ghee or butter over Kunafa by a spoon or brush.
Roll Kunafa hair around your finger and it will give you the nest shape like photo below.
Preheat oven over 240°c.
In a nonstick cookies sheet, place all Kunafa nests, then spread melted ghee or butter over surface.
Add nuts in the center or leave it empty to fill it with pastry cream.
Put the sheet in the oven for 20 min or until the surface starts to be gold then open the grill for 2 min.
Pour the syrup immediately then let it cool down and serve it.
