Belila or Egyptian wheat cereal; a nice and healthy breakfast.

Belila is an amazing Egyptian dish that is made from hulled wheat and milk. It is very nutritious and reach in vitamins and minerals. If you need a healthy and delicious breakfast, belila is the best dish for you.

Belila is popular in other Arab countries, but Syrian belila is made of chickpeas not wheat. Belila is very easy to make, let's do it;

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup hulled or pearly wheat.

  • 2 cups water.

  • 2 cups milk.

  • 2 tablespoon sugar.

  • 1 tablespoon whipping cream powder (optional).

  • Raisin (optional).

Preparation:

  • Wash hulled wheat and soak it for 2 hr. at least.

  • Add 2 cups of water and cook belila over medium high heat for 5 min then simmer for another 20 min.

  • At this point you can keep belila in the fridge for another use.

  • Add 2 cups of milk, sugar, whipping powder and raisin then stir for 1 min.

  • Let it cool down then serve it.
